ENERGY ASSISTANCE
The Energy Assistance Program is designed to assist low-income families with the high costs of home energy.
The Energy Assistance Program heating season begins November 1, 2024. Applications will be available mid-September. Households receiving Energy Assistance benefits last year (November 1, 2023 to May 16, 2024) will be mailed an application beginning in mid-September, or you may download an application below, or apply online. Household eligibility is based on 60% of the State Median Income or 150% of the Federal poverty guidelines whichever is higher. Our offices are closed to the public, however, you may contact us by mail, fax or phone (beginning mid-October).

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Application Requirements – All applications must include the following:
Signed Complete Application.
Social Security number is required for all persons in the household age one (1) and older.
Proof of Indiana Residency for at least 30 days (utility bill and/or signed certification statement)
Proof of all income for the three months prior to the month of your application for everyone 18 years of age and older in the household: AWARD LETTERS or bank statements for Social Security, SSI, SSDI, VA benefits, or pensions; PAY STUBS if you have been working during the three months prior to your application month; IF YOU WERE OUT OF WORK for some of the three months or received unemployment benefits, we need you last pay stub from your most recent job and an Income Affidavit for each month there has been no income. If you received Unemployment Benefits you must also complete an Indiana Workforce Development Release of Information which is also included in the download.
Current electric and heat bills. Your heat and electric bills must be in an adult household member’s name over 18 years of age.
If heat or electric utilities are included in your rent you must provide a Landlord Affidavit which is available at most housing offices or can be requested from our office. A copy of your current lease may also be used. The lease must show what utilities are paid by the landlord or tenant and must show the amount of rent paid. We cannot use certification letters or amendments for leases.
If you are a veteran, DD 214 form or Veterans ID card.

APPOINTMENTS ARE NOT NEEDED UNLESS: you have been disconnected or have received a notice of disconnection on your primary heating source and/or electricity, OR if you are low on bulk fuel (at or below 25% of a tank), OR if you heat with biofuels (corn, wood, wood pellets or coal) and you are within 10 days of running out of fuel.

If you apply online and include your mobile phone number and carrier, or your email address, you will receive a notification when funds have applied to your utility account. You may apply using your mobile phone or tablet. You will be prompted to take a picture of required documents or you may upload a scanned copy.
